Welcome to Edward Smyth-Osbourne Racing

Edward Smyth-Osbourne has quickly established himself as one of British racing’s most exciting, emerging trainers.
Since taking out his licence in early 2024, Edward has enjoyed two highly successful seasons, sending out 13 winners from just 94 runners, at places like Ascot, Newbury, Newmarket and Doncaster amongst many others. He is developing a growing reputation for producing horses that are both progressive and well-placed.

Edward’s lifelong connection with horses began on the hunting field and through the Pony Club, where he built a broad foundation in horsemanship and competition. Although polo dominated much of his youth, it was a successful introduction to Point-to-Point racing that sparked his enduring passion for the sport.

After graduating from university, Edward gained valuable industry experience with McKeever Bloodstock and on The National Stud course before broadening his horizons in Australia, working for legendary trainers Gai Waterhouse and Chris Waller. Returning to the UK, he went on to serve as assistant trainer to Michael Bell and held positions with Mark Johnston, Henry Candy, and the partnership of William Muir and Chris Grassick — experience that has shaped his thoughtful, detail-oriented approach to training.

Now based at Frenchman’s House Stables in Upper Lambourn, Edward and his dedicated team operate from a purpose-built 20-box yard featuring spacious, airy boxes, turnout paddocks, and a five-bay horse walker. Ideally positioned at the foot of Kingsdown Gallop, the yard has direct access to the world-class facilities of The Jockey Club’s Lambourn training grounds.

With a strong foundation, a hands-on approach, and a clear passion for the horses in his care, E S-O Racing continues to go from strength to strength; combining traditional horsemanship with modern methods to bring out the best in every horse.
